Above is my e-mail address, but there is a whold e-mail directory on the forum. It's filled with people who to be and have buddies.

Why are your kids unhappy about you doing this? Maybe you should have them read the book so they can see that it's healthy and good for you.

You need to think about self!! Our children don't think about the health aspect of why we want to lose weight and our happiness. As parents we get so caught up in our children and there happiness that we forget about ourselves but NOW is the time that we think about US!

Stay motivated, happy, keep peace and patience. I wish all you the LUCK! If you want to do it...be like NIKE and "Just DO IT"

Vicki, I'm new as well. So is Raini and, although I can't speak for her, I know that I'm interested in sticking together with another newbee Ricer.

You can reach me at vcbirdsell@yahoo.com or just by sending a message to the board. I've been watching the board for a few weeks (today is the first time I've ever responded to anyone) and I can tell you without any hesitation that EVERYONE has been extremely caring and interested in each others' success and struggles. Personally, I feel like finding the Rice Diet and the Inspiration Room has been a blessing.

Take care,
Valerie

thank you everyone for your response. i made it through my first and second days. so far so good and hoping to be healthier!
my kids are just afraid that i am going to make them eat rice and beans. it wouldn't hurt them but i won't force them to do it.
when i hit a rough patch i keep telling myself "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels". so far it's working.

Hey, Emily, You and your Mom will do great together!!
I copied one of my posts from the main forum to give you some info. E-mail me if you need any more help!
bludaffodil (Kathy)

HINTS FOR THE RICE DIETA

Welcome to the RD & the RD Forum!!!

If you read the following posts you will find most of what you need to know to get started before you get your book:

#1 THE RICE DIET SOLUTION-PHASE I & II

#2 Carb, Fruit and Vegetable List

#3 RD Hints for Newbies (which is what you are
reading)

#4 Bludaffodil's Menus

The 4th one is just a sample of my daily menus to help whoever is having a hard time figuring out what to eat.

Other info:

1. We are allowed 1-2 tsp of olive oil (or canola) per day
as our added fat. (This includes oil in processed or packaged foods, too)

2. Drink 40 - 72 oz. of water daily

3. Limit consumption of salt, sodium, MSG and sodium
benzoate. On Detox days our daily limit is only
300 mg. On other rice days our daily limit is
between 500mg & 1,000mg. (w/ 500mg being the
optimal one)

4. If you eat cereal, make sure it has no more than:
2g fat, 10mg sodium, 6g sugar AND at least:
2g fiber

5. You can spread your foods out throughout the day
instead of just having 3 meals.....just don't go over the
daily allottment OR eat everything at once!!! LOL

“FORMULAS” TO FOLLOW:

1 STARCH =
1/3 c cooked rice or beans
1/2 c cooked for ALL other grains/pasta/corn/potato
1 slice whole grain bread
1/4 to 1c whole grain cereal

1 (non-starchy) VEGETABLE =
1/2 c cooked
1c raw

1 FRUIT =
1c any fruit
1/2 banana (medium) or 1 small
1 apple, orange or kiwi etc.
2 plums, or tangerines
1 TBS all-fruit jam/jelly etc.
1 TBS raisins

1 DAIRY =
1c fat-free milk/non-fat soy milk or almond & grain milk
1c fat-free yogurt/non-fat soy yogurt

1 PROTEIN =
1 oz. fish, lean meat or poultry
1/4 c beans
1 egg
3 egg whites

If you don't want the above foods for your protein on Protein Day, you can substitute 2 dairy for the 3 protein.

If you ever have any questions, post them on this Forum or e-mail me at
kdmhewitt@hotmail.com.

Have a great day & happy ricin',
bludaffodil

PS At your leisure, I recommend that you read ALL the
posts on this Forum. I did when I started this dieta
and even though it took forever (LOL) it is well
worth it!!!

Emily,
Welcome to you and your mom!

I strongly suggest that you and your mom read the book, if you haven't already. You can get a copy from a library or buy one, but either way it is very helpful.

I think the people on the Rice Diet website are great and I know you said you are fourteen so I'm sure you already know this, but I'm a mom and a teacher, so I can't help myself. Please remember that you need to be careful about giving out personal information on-line.

So, no last names, phone numbers or meeting anyone in person without your mom being with you.

Good luck to you and your mom!
