I'm on day 3 and I've already lost 1.5 lbs (water weight no doubt- but hey it's better than no weight)
I'm 38 yrs old, 5"9" and 250 Lbs(as of this morning - YAY!!) My bp runs 143/89 when I don't take my meds. When I'm on my meds it runs 122/79. My goal is to get off meds completely and to lose about 80lbs.
So far my biggest issue is that I am hungry - especially in the afternoons. I've been reading the posts here a couple of weeks and am spreading my food out throughout the day but still I'm hungry about 3-4pm in the afternoon and my energy is really low. Even after I have a snack (usually fruit or veggies)....

Any advice on this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome!

This has helped me, I opt for fresh raw vegetables as much as possible then I can have a full cup instead of a half cup. When I eat cooked vegetables, or even with the starches, if it will work taste wise, I add water. So, yesterday when I ate cooked spinach, I added water, a little extra salt free seasoning and 1/2 cup of my "dairy," non fat soy milk. Presto, spinach soup. My 1 1/2 cups of spinach suddenly had to be split in two. I ate about half at the time and the rest later when I was hungry again.

Hi Wendyloohoo (love that, my sister calls me cindyloohoo all the time!)

Try to go for the denser foods and see if that helps - like oatmeal, and beans, instead of cereals and potatos.
Also instead of lettuce, go for carrots and broccoli and such, apples instead of grapes, see what I mean?

Let us know if that helps - why don't you tell us exactly what you're eating, maybe we can help out a bit.

Hi CindyLooHoo - it's always nice to meet another "loohoo"
Mainly this has been my meals:

Breakfast:
2 biscuits of shredded wheat
1 tbsp of flax seeds (for the omega 3's)
1 cup of skim milk
1 cup of fruit (this has varied, grapefruit, cherries, peaches)

Lunch:

1-2 cups of salad greens
1/2 cup of peppers
1/2 cup of cucumbers
5-6 cherry tomatoes
1 baked sweet potato w/ splenda and cinnamon
1tbsp of Smart Heart "margarine like" spread
vinegar

Snack: peach or watermelon

Dinner:

1 ear of corn or 1 sweet potato or 1/2 cup of brown rice
2 cups of salad greens
1 cup mix of carrots, peppers, cucumbers
1 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp of smart heart spread
1 cup of watermelon, cantelope or cherries

I haven't had much time to cook this week so I'm sticking to things that microwave well like sweet potatoes and corn and rice. I haven't tried any bean recipes yet. Although the ones in the book look good.

I'll have to try that as well. Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try it.

BTW - I'm down another 2 lbs as of today. So it's definitely working.... YAY!!

Hey everyone. I am "new again" here. I did this for a few months and it was successful. Then I got lazy, it got nice out, the pool is open and the fat is back!

So, I am going to be better at following through. The last few months have been a crisis mode personally and now it is all behind us. On to "smaller" and better me!!

I have read all the posts in the Inspiration room and the Forum and boy have I missed everyone!

Wendyloohoo~I think that beans are what's missing from the day's menu you posted. Beans are the main thing that prevent hunger, imo.

I'll share with you a dinner that really "filled me up" --
2 slices of Ezekiel Sodium free sprouted bread toasted -
1 large grilled portabella mushroom with 1/2 tsp. olive oil and garlic and Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb sprinkled on -
1 slice tomato
1/2 orange bell pepper grilled
2 slices grilled onions ---
Baby spinach leaves
What a "Dagwood" sandwich --- was delicious --- and on the side I had 1/2 c. fresh blueberries and sliced apple.

I hope you can find filling bulk foods that you like ---- so far (fingers, toes, crossed) I haven't been hungry!

wendyloohoo,

Unless your sweet potato is huge........you don't seem to be eating enough starches at lunch or dinner.

Sweet potatoes and regular potatoes are 1/2 cup per serving.........since we can have 3 servings then you would have to be eating 1 1/2 cups of sweet potatoes per meal to get your starch allowance. (Actually, I wouldn't mind that.........I LOVE sweet potatoes! LOL)

Happy ricin',
