Is there anyone out there who's from Winnipeg in Canada. I started RD today and would like to find a buddy. I don't have a lot of time to chat but would like to check in once or twice a day with ideas and support. I am a young 67 so someone around that age would be great. If there's no one then someone anywhere else would also be nice.

Welcome YCS,

I know there are some Canadians here. Have you looked at the Forum. There are lots of postings from lots of folks there. A couple of threads list our locations and bio info, as well as emails.

Checking in twice a day you MIGHT be able to keep up the the posts there

Good luck and welcome

Hi, Winnipeg, from Lony/T.O./59

Yes, check out the Forum (though this website is being updated on 27 June, Tuesday, and will not be usable from 12:00 noon to 6 p.m. or 9 p.m at latest, says Jayne.
There are other Canadians, but I don't think any from Manitoba. I could be wrong.

Most of the activity takes place on the Forum message board. Throw yourself into in: do lots of posts; do replies on other people's threads; make suggestions; give support; ask for support. This is a wonderful dieta and a wonderful community.

That's true. It really doesn't matter where we are from. I started today and did quite well although I did get hungry but I am choosing to ignore it and persevere. It am worried that it will become boring with the same things every day, there doesn't seem to be much variety and yet people stay on it permanently. I suppose it's just the beginning stages that are limited.

YCS,

Not sure why you don't think there is much variety on the RD. I mean, you can have ANY fruit you want ( 1c raw/ 1/2 cup cooked per serving), ANY veggie you want (1 c raw, 1/2 cup cooked per serving), ANY starch you want (1/3 c rice or beans per serving, 1/2 c cooked for all other grains/pasta/potatoes/corn or ANY other high-fiber starch, whole-grain bread OR cereal)

Most days you can have 3 starch servings/3 veggie servings and a fruit serving per lunch and dinner. You can have 3 of the same starch/veggie OR 3 different starches/veggies at each meal.

To me that is a heck of a lot of variety. LOL

Maybe you are misunderstanding what we are saying. Some of us like to keep things simple and may not have much variety in their food choices........but you eat the foods that are appealing to you. The only "lack of variety" that I see is that the AMOUNTS of each type of food does not vary.

Anyway, I hope this info helps you on your ricin',
journey!

Happy ricin',
bludaffodil

I think I feel there won't be much for me because i am allergic to yeast so can't have any bread. other than beans, what else do you eat as protein? i think i have to get used to the whole program and become more inventive. i am already a vegetarian so that part won't be hard but, of course, i used to have eggs and cheese, which have now gone from my meal choices. i am looking at some of the recipes for ideas. also, i live in a small town and we don't the selection of low sodium products. i am determined to keep going though, i lost two pounds today and already feel the effects of less fluid in my body! thanks for helping!

YCS,
check out the recipe posts in the Forum. Lots of yummy choices.

I tend not to choose bread because it triggers cravings for me. On the recipe thread there are muffins made from oats etc. You may find that you have options for "breads" that you haven't had before.

Also, lots of proteins come in our other foods. Check out Quinoa. It is a grain and is a storehouse of protein. As far a beans are concerned, there are a bunch of options. Pintos, white beans, navy, garbonzo, butter, lima, kidney, black beans. Those are just off the top of my head. Someone had an interesting recipe for chick peas roasted in the oven. You can use them for a snack or on top of salads.

Also I check out recipes on the web. Some of them need to be altered a bit for salt or fat, but some creative substitutions and they fit right in our program.

There are loads of options out there if you choose to take them.

Enjoy
deb

Thanks, Deb, I will check the web. I think I will be fine once I get into the swing of things. What do you order when you eat out?
