I first started the Rice Diet in 2006 and did not stay on the program... After several trys at other programs, I returned to the Rice Diet on the 17th of May this year (2009). My health was becoming seriously compromised and I knew I had to do something. I seem to be extremely sensitive to medication, so almost any blood pressure medication causes problems. I decided the only answer to the problem as not to need medication, so therefore I had to lose the weight. I to date have lost 14 lbs. and more significant than the weight loss is the reaction of my body. I now need to take just one blood pressure pill, and the incontinence I was experiencing is completely gone. The freedom of not having to wear leakage protection is absolute heaven and being able to have control over my bladder is a plus I never thought would happen again. I am so grateful for this side benefit. I hope others are having the same good results. Last time I tried the diet I became extremely tired and just found it impossible to continue. Since then I had surgery to repair a serious sinus problem and am very hopeful that the ever present infection that the surgeon found was the culprit in my tiredness and that this time I can keep going forward to my goal! Looking very forward to the future... 33Rocky Acres in Utah

Well congratulations on your weight loss of 14 pounds already. Like you said - the weight loss is secondary to the improvement of your health and well being. I'm so glad you're seeing an improvement in how you are feeling. Welcome back to the Forum and keep up the GREAT work. Bonnie

Thank you Quasar4legs - I am excited about how much better I feel. We went to Rapid City, SD for my Grandson's graduation from high school and it was not easy to travel and stick to the program. But found some wonderful sources of help. We took a plug-in ice chest with fruits and some prepared items and that really helped. The biggest issue was the on the go stuff, so I settled on salt free rice cakes and fruit only jam. Not perfect, but less evil than alternatives. We also found that the Flying J truck stops will prepare to order, so I was able to have a baked potato plain with veggies streamed without salt. It was cooked to perfection and excellent. Starbuck carries oatmeal, so we just drove thru and picked up oatmeal with dried fruit. And in Vernal, Utah of all places there is a drive thru barbeque place that carries rice bowls with steamed veggies (no salt as the added flavor is in the sauce that I left off). It wasn't perfect due to eating times and a meal out at a Chinese Restaurant, but I came back a pound lighter. So I have now lost 15 lbs. I need to get the courage to return food and say that I had asked for plain, and not be to uncomfortable to make a fuss. The Chinese should have been fine with rice noodles and veggies, but they had sauted the noodles and veggies and added seasonings. Excellent, but not on the diet. There was also a slight language barrier. I also got a small container that I could take salt free beans and rice with balsamic vinegar in and then just pour that over a salad I ordered at the restaurant. I had a good start on planning ahead but will do better next time as I am aware of more of the pitfalls now... The biggest pitfall was the barbequed hamburgers, steaks and chicken, salads, dips, chips and giant cookies... Thank goodness there was a bunch of hungry teens to eat everything up. Let's go get healthy... Jeanne aka 33rockyacres

Hey Jeanne - thanks for all the helpful traveling information. Congratulations on your weight loss so far. I'm also one of those people that don't like to "create a scene" in restaurants... so I'm not very vocal when it comes to asking for what I want and need. I'm trying to teach myself to ask for a take-out container when I first receive my food, so I can remove some of it from my plate immediately.... I think waitresses are trained to only bring it at the conclusion of the meal for leftovers. Last Friday when we ate out, I had to ask the waitress THREE times for a container before she finally brought it at the END of the meal. Woe is me. Bonnie

Great idea to ask for the to-go container up front. You could also get rid of those things you really shouldn't have... Thanks for the support Bonnie... Jeanne

It has now been 36 days since I started the Rice Diet and I have lost 21.5 lbs. Challenges: a trip to SD to be at my grandson's graduation from high school... Did not lose any weight during those 6 days, but did not gain. I planned ahead and was able to stick to the diet with some minor exceptions. I had one day that I ate some extra meat (chicken) prepared wrong to be on the diet, but it was great. I started my adjustment back to the diet by the cleansing day and an attitude adjustment. I had been eating whole wheat pasta, baked potatoes with salsa and some undressed corn on the cob. I seemed to be getting hungry and I decided that I need to eat more brown rice and less of the alternative starches. I find that the brown rice helps prevent the hunger, but it is not as satisfying to the taste buds. I need to find some good seasonings that make the rice more palatable. Moving forward with determination, but not as much enthusiasm. I have a long way to go... It will probably take me a year and a half to lose all I have to lose, and dedication to the Rice Diet to maintain, so any ideas would be appreciated... WOW is right. Congratulations on your 21.5 pounds in only 36 days. I think you're right about sticking more to the grains and less on the other starches. Keep us posted on what else you are doing to lose all this weight. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, I was not feeling well for a couple of days and needed to come up with something that was filling and tummy soothing... I put a can of salt free garbanzo beans in the processor added 3/4 of a cup of mild salsa, teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes and a tbsp of Paul Purdomme's salt free Magic seasoning... Blended all into a hummus and put about a rounded teaspoon full on salt free rice cakes... 3 cakes like that and cup of black tea was tummy smoothing and kept me on my diet... It is really goooood too! That has been my lunch now for several days along with grilled mushrooms and grilled slices of yellow crookneck squash, also with Paul Purdhomme's Magic Seasoning. It is tasty but bland enough to keep a roiling but hungry tummy under control... Thank you so much for your support... I read several of your past postings and find you have a very interesting life... Again, thank you and keep up the good work. Jeanne

Hi Jeanne, Your hummus recipe sounds very good - some hummus recipes contain a LOT of olive oil and I stay away from those. Sorry you weren't feeling so good, I hope your stomach is doing much better now.
So you think I have an interesting life ! - it seems only normal to me, but I will admit that Fred and I do have a lot going on most every day. Tomorrow we'll be doing "BIG TIME" strawberry picking at a local farm... follow that up with canning and freezing berries for the year. And probably the next day we will cross over the border and have lunch in Canada by the Rideau Canal at a healthy little cafe that our friends own and operate. Last week for canning, I was busy with rhubarb... ended up with fourteen quarts canned and four BIG bags frozen. The only other food processing I've done so far this year is freezing garlic scapes, and freezing chives for Fall, Winter and Spring usage. I love to grow my own food supplies whenever possible. My kitchen timer is "calling" me, the rice is done. Bonnie
