I believe Day 1 is recommended for as long as a week.

HI Fit & Fab!

In the original Rice Diet Report by Judy Moscovitz, Judy described the diet that she followed at the Rice House in Durham in 1982. At that time, Phase 1 was: Breakfast: 1 fruit, Lunch: 2 fruits, 1 portion cooked rice or equivalent, Dinner: 2 fruits, 1 portion cooked rice or equivalent. Patients were encouraged to stay on the diet as long as they could tolerate it - usually for two weeks but sometimes for several months! I followed that plan about 15 years ago and although I lost a lot of weight quickly, I had a lot of trouble shifting to Phase 2. I think that the new and improved Rice Diet Solution is much better and helps people to be more successful as they shift between the phases. However, when I feel like my ability to make good food choices is not as strong as it should be, I will do two detox days in a row to help get me back on track. I think that staying on a severely restricted diet for any length of time messes with your metabolism and can cause you to plateau.

If you have any questions, send a message to Jayne at the Rice House and she'll give you great advice.

Good luck with the plan.

Cindy

Hello I am a newbee. I have been following the RD for 6 days now. See, I came across the Rice Diet Report by Moscovitz in a Goodwill store. After reading it I was convinced that I could do this. In five days I have loss 10.6 pound and am very pleased. Now I am a little confused. I came across the RD forum to relize that there is a new version of the RD. I had planned to stay on phase 1 for well as long as I could before going to phase 2. After reading everyones posts, I assume that this is not recommeded. Can you discuss in more detail your troubles in shifting from phase 1 to phase 2 15years ago. I am afraid that if I switch to phase 2 now that I might sabatage my weight loss goals.

Thanks
CrystalV

I use the food plan for Day 1, Phase 1 whenever I need it for hunger or appetite control. My problem with food has always been if a little tastes good, eat a lot. I don't seem to have a shut-off valve on my hunger. The Basic rice plan of nothing but rice & fruit for the day works for me to get me back in control of what I eat & how much. Plus, stuff like plain vegetables tastes so much better after a day on just rice & fruit.

I've not been a very faithful follower of the Rice Diet, why I write rarely here, but I'm slowly getting better at it, having been following it so-so for a couple years now. Following it so-so, I don't lose weight but I don't gain either. Now I'm slowly moving back into lose mode, being willing to do it the right way. My body works better on unprocessed food, I have found for myself in this time.

Hi I also was on the rice diet in Durham the 80's where you did have to eat rice (white mind you) and 2 fruits for each meal, better known now as phase one now, for as long as you could tolerate it. I did it for about 1 month dropped an enormous amount of weight that first month and found I felt just fine. For me starting over now it is as a way of life I have opted to do the first phase for the same amount of time, However I have put some of phase two in if I had to go out to dinner etc. I am being somewhat flexible, but after that day out go right back to the phase one. I am finding FOR ME being flexible within the parameters of the program is creating a lifestyle more than a diet. I am not as wound-up about it all and seem to just be able to do it, this is me, I think you have to find what works best for you and also how it makes you feel overall. It is important to stick to the phases. On phase two I for myself add in more days of phase one. This time around I am approaching it again as a life style change as if I again see it as a diet I will fail.

According to the "Woman's World" article, the Rice & Fruit only should be done once a week. Am I missing something? Is that supposed to be done for a full week & then start eating veggies & some meats?

Detox day (rice and fruit) is done for one day each week. Yes, people do it differently, but according to the RD Solutions book which I think most people on the board are using, it's done for one day each week. Then there is a phase 1 week to be followed for one week..no meat, and after that phase 2 until all your weight is lost. The WW article is a bit different in that it adds animal protein sooner. So you can see that there is lots of variation and lots of choice. Find what works for you and tweak as necessary.
