Why? To keep the spammers out!
This one has a fail-safe when signing in - if you try - unsuccessfully - to log in more than twice in a row, it makes you wait 12 minutes before you can try again. Spammers don't have the tie or patience to try again later so they just go away, frustrated.
I found thi out when I tried to log in this afternoon. I must have mis-typed (I'm using my son's computr with a cruddy keyboard that skips letters) and after a couple tries get that message. From now on I'll just copy/paste when I use this keyboard to avoid that in the future.
