Bonnie,

Thanks for the welcome and the support.

So I actually completed one week on the diet. I stuck to it pretty faithfully although I had trouble with some of the sodium counts so I may have underestimated the amount I had. I am down 5.5 lbs in one week and very pleased with this. Fortunately, today is a day off from work so managing the Basic Diet Day 1 Detox for this week will be easiler than if I had to do it a work. My biggest challenge this week will be on Tuesday and Wednesday when I am expecting some heavy stress and long hours. I will have to plan to bring breakfast, lunch and dinner with me for those two days to ensure that I am not tempted to eat something that is off the diet. I also made sure to exercise this morning immediately when I got up for about 55 minutes -- about 1/2 hour walking and another 25 minutes of free weights and stretching/yoga. I may go for another walk later since I expect I will not get any exercise in tomorrow.

Has anyone found that eating a serving of beans for breakfast as one of the two starches on the Basic Diet day helps with not feeling hungry too soon? I tried this and found it seems to work. Had 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1/3 cup of white cannellini beans and an apple and 1/2 cup of orange juice mixed with water for breakfast.

I got my Rice Solution book in the mail on Friday and have read through most of it. It is very helpful in setting out the basics of the plan and in providing the information that backs up the science of the plan. Interestingly, it looks like the sodium issue is heating up in the press and in the legislature. The food industry is fighting back heavily to try to prevent legislation requiring a 25% reduction in sodium in processed foods at least with further scheduled required reductions over time. No doubt there will be studies that come out very soon that support the notion that sodium is not a problem, excess food is. Of course, this ignores that both are problems!

Hi Susan, Yes you will find that the higher fiber content there is in your starch ... that it will last longer and help you to not be so hungry too soon. A portion of beans will carry you a lot longer than a portion of WHITE crackers will. Check on food listings to find out which foods have the highest amount of fiber.
An orange is also better for you than orange juice - more fiber. I'm glad you got your book, there is a lot of good information in those pages. Good luck and continue to stick with it. Bonnie

Hi all,
I find that a high fiber cereal like Kashi tends to keep me from getting hungry til lunch. I've gotten off track this weekend, working on "restarting" and doing a longer detox to try to jump start again.

Don't consider myself a product maven. But I've found a cereal ... a combination of oats, soy, and flax ... that seems to do wonders for me. I'm not where I can see a box but the name is something like Hodgson's Farms Breakfast Cereal with Flaxseed. If I'm way off, please forgive me.

I just read through this thread. KarolinaKat you've done a great service to all of us keeping this going. THANKS!

And thanks for being here.

PS. Doesn't Nanacoon have a treasure chest of good insight?

Today is my second day, and I'm taking it one day at a time. I am headed to the store today for some shopping. My list is short. I am staying with the day one detox program for a little while. I go to the Dr on Friday, I went and had my blood work done yesterday morning. This way I'll know what's what from day one. I was truly excited this morning when I weighted in down 3 pounds which is wonderful. I know that I have a long road ahead of me, but I'm up for the challenge! Woohoo! Please let me know how you're doing in your journey to being healthy!

Thanks Restingtree, I really need the support and to see what others are doing, so I'm glad to see a few new posters joining the forums! I take flax twice a day and used to get flaxseed to put on my cereal, so I'll look for the one you suggested.

Wendy, how long have you been doing the day 1 detox? I'm thinking of doing it for 2 weeks starting Monday, I just wonder if I can survive it! I need to get re-jumpstarted after an illness that took me somewhat off plan, and this seems it would be a good method. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
KK

KK, I'm hoping for 4 weeks as of today and I've just about finished my first week. I've got to take it one day at a time so that I don't give up and just drop it. However, the one thing that I have found out in just the last few days, is to fix it and have it ready for the next few days, which makes it so easy for me and that is what I need.

So you're going to start on Monday, that's wonderful and yes you can handle it, I'm sure, just be prepared at all times, I took two boxes of ceral and placed them into baggies so that if nothing else I can grab them on the run. It's all about being prepared I'm sure of that. If we wait till we are hunger to get prepared them we tend to eat other things. We all have gone to the drive-thru because it was all ready prepared. So just prepared it ahead of time. Now this morning I was bagging things for my son for his week, but I was eating my breakfast while I did it. I try to be eating my lunch or breakfast while I'm preparing my meals for the next fee days, only because i like to taste my fresh fruit hehehe. I cut me fresh and eat it while I package the other meals. I wish that I had a larger steamer, but I don't, so I can cook 2 cups of uncooked at a time, but that will last me about 3 or 4 days, not bad.

KK, I'm by no means the expert on the Rice Diet, I can only tell you that I did the diet in 1999 and did well with it. I fell in 2003 and it's been down hill since. But that time is over and I can't go back and change anything. I'm moving forward with my new life with the rice dieta, I know you can do this and will do great. You need to do what is best for you. What works for you. Do you have the 2 books? I have them both, but I truly don't need the cookbook right now, because I love simple! So that is why I love the day one phase! Simple! Posted Image I will most likely go to phase 2 for a couple of weeks and then back to day one for another few weeks. I believe that it is important to change our eating happens and to learn control. For me that is where I went wrong. When I started putting the weight back on, I should have gone back to the center or at least started the program here at home and i didn't! So it's completely my fault for being back to were I am again. So KK, you control everything in your life, it's up to you what you do.

I would love to be here with you on your journey and you be here with me on mine! What do you think? I have posted under the weigh in, i think that is what it is called. Look me up and please keep in touch.

Hi Wendy, sounds great. Always helps to have people to vent to, ask advice of, encourage and get encouragement from! I have the main book and like you prefer simple, so I doubt I'll get the cookbook any time soon. I loaded up on cereal and fruit and rice etc. at the store yesterday so I'm raring to go. I'm going to try to weigh in once a week and see if I can lose 5 lbs a week at least for a few weeks to get me back on track. I'm still debating on doing the detox day for a week or two vs doing week 1. Seemed to get mixed reviews from people on how that works!

Anyway, look forward to losing with you :)
