Last night I went out to dinner with a friend and we ate at a mexican place. I was a bit nervous about eating out so soon after coming back to riceing. Here's what I did.
I ordered everything ala-carte. side of beans, side of rice, side salad and a tortillia. I made my self a bean and rice burrito. I ate about half of the food that was brought to the table. No chips but I did put salsa on my burrito.
I know there was more sodium in the food than I would have liked so I drank a large water with dinner and made a big cup of lemon tea when I got home.

No sodium weight gain this morning so must be it worked. I got to spend a nice evening out and still maintain my healthy eating.

How does everyone else handle eating out?

If it is a regular restaurant, a baked potato and salad is good Oil and vinegar dressing for the salad or lemon juice. Most restaurants also have steamed veggies you can put on your potato.

HI my name is Jess and I am a vegan. I tell the server that I am a vegan and ask them if i can get a veggie plate no salt or butter added.

I look up the restaurant online beforehand. Most have nutritional information or at least a menu. Then I can select wisely before I go and not hold up the process of ordering when I get there. I almost always have a basketful of questions for the server.

I usually try to pick as wisely as I can so that I can stay on plan without making too much of a fuss. My grandma has kidney & blood pressure problems so I always blame my need for lower sodium choices on my family genetics *smiles* That said, I know that eating out means much higher levels of sodium, but I think that since I am so very low sodium for my regular intake that a sodium splurge on occasion is not going to be the death of my success. In general, so long as I drink extra water on these splurge days, I don't have too much sodium weight gain. The real trick, for me, is not giving into the intense cravings for SUGAR that the added sodium intake gives me. Not kidding -- when I eat a super salty meal, I want cake & cookies & brownies & chocolate & & & & ......
