I re-started the RD after departing in the Fall of 2007 due to a long plateau! I have since tried everything out there with the exception of HCG and I have accomplished nothing but a GAIN in weight! So frustrating!
However the RD has kicked in the BURN and I am on day 5 and down 7 pounds!!!

Woot woot! I can do this forever with results like that! But how well all us veterans know the loss slows and it takes perserverance to carry on!

I hope by posting my recent success I don't jinx anything. .Plateaus are not my THING! I hate them! I want huge success this time! 7 down and 93 pounds to go.

Dear God, please give me the strength and endurance to finish the race this time around!

Thanks for listening everybody!

Aw Rhonda! I can totally sympathize with the jinx notion *smiles* Congrats on your recent success!! I hope you continue a windfall!! My weight loss goes in spurts -- some weeks I lose like 5 or more pounds & others I only lose a pound.

I often fret over the whole what am I going to do AFTER I lose the weight. I have lost the same 100 pounds on and off for the past 20 years. Lose, gain, lose, gain. Why don't I stop the gain part once I am successful at the lose part?! I'm terrified that I will lose the weight & gain it back again. I am certain that EVERY time I have lost it I have said, "I will never gain the weight back" but every time some big change in my life happens where I gain it back. My gain back is usually not a gradual thing, it is usually rather rapid. Even happy changes in my life result in weight gain (marriage, pregnancy, etc).

I feel like it is possible that this time around I keep the weight on because I am fearful of gaining it back. I guess it is hard to explain.

WOW Rhonda, That's a GREAT re-start. For me dieting isn't the hard part of losing the weight, but getting my head on straight and focusing my mind to staying on the diet is where I have my problems. I love to plan my meals with healthy choices and I'm satisfied with my portions - so as long as I stay on the straight and narrow path, I do just fine. My problems start when I wander away from the healthy foods. When you have to change your environment and get out in the area where the sugar, salt and fat permeate all your food choices .. and everyone else is filling their face with the forbidden foods is where my biggest problems of staying the course comes in. Good luck on staying on track and not getting distracted. Bonnie

Thanks Kelly and Bonnie for your words of wisdom,

I have spent all this time since leaving the RD to try to figure out what works for me and what doesn't. Doctor has checked everything about me and finds nothing wrong. I am the healthiest fattest person I know! :) Blood sugar usually is around 89 when tested. Cholesterol is all normal. BP is still high but normal on half a dose of my meds. This AM I checked it and it was 120/80. Yay! I am still taking 1/2 pill every day though.

So, I fight the fight of insulin resistance is what they tell me. I go to the DR next week and she is probably going to want to put me on meds for it since she has given me a year to get the weight off and here I am still 90 some pounds overweight!

So....my findings are this up to this point. Restingtree has always told us he sticks with the lowest carb/sugar fruites IE: berries and black eyed peas (I figured it out that he does those because they are lower carb than most beans) You are so smart Mr. Restingtree! So, that is what I am doing! I eat a bowl of oatbran every morning and make my choices the rest of the day lower carb fruits and beans and of course we know all the good lower carb veggies that are so good for us.

Now, the one thing that I am doing differently is 5 to 6 cups of green tea per day. My faves are blackraspberry and pomegranate from Republic of Tea brand. YUMMO and it just takes the hunger right out of me!

I am also staying out of the restaurants. There is nothing I can really eat at most of them. If I am forced to go for one reason or another, I will eat before I go and have a cup of green tea.

Plus I have a little 85pct dark chocolate per day. About an ounce! I make a choc dip of sorts for my strawberries. YUMMO

KAYLAGAL. WELCOME BACK. You have been missed.

Always appreciate your faith in me. Nevertheless, I find every time I try to outsmart the RD plan, it doesn't work very well. When any of us hit plateaus or brick walls, the best advice is go back to one of Kitty's books and read until one finds the error of their ways. When I do, things work out.

I will spend most of the coming week in Charleston, Orlando, and Palm Beach. This is a magnitude above my usual itinerary. I'll travel with a colleague by car, so I can take what I need. My colleague is a 6th degree black belt and a triathlon participant ...who has gone a bit of flabby managing projects around the world. He will probably join me on the RD.

I'm taking pre-measured portions of rice, black-eyed peas, flax seed cereal, walnuts, and a loaf of Ezekiel bread. I'll buy lettuce, other greens, and fruit (apples, pears, and maybe berries) along the way. All hotels have a refrigerator and microwave in the room plus a good exercise room. Hope to return pretty well cleansed and ready to reassume the RD lifestyle.

Thanks everyone for being here.

Restingtree,

Nice to hear from you! I awoke this morning tired to the bone! Took my bp thinking it might be too low but it was 123/73 which is almost perfect so I just chalked it up to the body trying to get acclimated to the dieta again.

I think you are right RT, I probably need to read the book again!

I was up a pound this am so that brings my total loss for the week to 7 but my week is not up until tomorrow morning. So I got a last chance workout in tonight and took a reluctant hubs on a 3 mile walk with me! :)

Thanks for listening everybody. I love the therapy of the forum!

One of the "Success Stories" I remember was a gentleman who would walk three miles every time he got hungry. My memory is he went from well over 300 lbs to 150 lbs or so. I'm not ready for that ... but I'm going to try to start at a half mile or a 15 minute bicycle ride when I feel hungry and see if that can help. Just a thought.

Thanks for being here.

Boy, do I know how discouraging plateaues can be, usually, I just have to wait them out and stay on plan, then I will see a drop - sometimes a couple days, sometimes 10. I usually have a big drop initially, then it averages 10 lbs a month. I know that is what is recommended, but I want faster! Regardless, Yesterday I went below 180! I havent seen 170's in many years! So, I celebrated by cleaning my closet. Threw out, or donated, everything that made me feel dumpy - even though some things were pretty, I considered them my "old self" and eliminated them! Down 20.2 lbs since Jan! Thanks for being here. Love reading your posts, very encouraging and fun. Michelle - oops- BDGirl

WTG Michelle! (BDgirl)

20 pounds is awesome since January! I can't wait to do a good SPRING cleaning job in my closet also. I have several pieces of clothing I have bought in the past that are in the "HOPE" section of my closet which still have the tags on that I am not able to get in! I will be glad when I can rip those tags off and enjoy wearing them!

@Restingtree, I too have a cronie that will be ricing with me this week. She recently tried the HCG diet which I knew would not work for her since this was not her first attempt at it! I took her shopping yesterday and gave her all my best tips on what to buy and how to fix them and in 3 weeks she is going to Hawaii. She has about 30 pounds to lose and a darn good RD coach!!! Lol

@Bonnie it is the perserverance that gets us where we want to be and you are the master of perserverance BONNIE! I appreciate you so much for all the fun picture posts of your life up NORTH. I hope the winter hasn't buried your farm completely! I know you are looking forward to Spring as much as I am!

@Kelly I have had a life long battle being comfortable in my own skin. I feel at almost 56 yrs old it is about time I get there! You derserve a good thin healthy body girl and PLEASE don't wait as long as I did because the older you are the slower your metabolism and the harder the fight!

I sure could use your young metabolism! Put it to good use with this RD and lead your generation back to health!! I am convinced you could do it with your creativity and enthusiasm for life!

Everybody else keep up the good work!!! We will all get there together!

Hello all -

I was happy to return after a long time away and find so many of the gang still here. I fell off the "Rice Boat" around mid December and realized last week that none of my pants fit so I jumped on the scale for the first time in 3 months - UGH!!! I was up 17 pounds - YIKES!! So my pot of Rhonda's beans and rice are on the stove and I am back on the program again. I started last weekend and have dropped some weight already so I am hoping to stay motivated. I was thrilled to see Cat's ticker at -190 ...WOW - that's wonderful motivation for everyone!

Thanks for still being here!

Cindy

Rhonda, lol,,, I know that jinx thing! I hope you are doing well. I just "knock on wood" and that helps.
Sailgal! Hugs! I am still plodding along, you will be back down in no time. When we have a little back slide we just have to grab our panties and step boldly on out again on the RD path!
Hugs
