I'm still trying to figure out this getting old stuff. I went for my walk this morning and decided to wear my heart rate monitor...highly recommended. I usually do 3 miles and go at a pretty good clip, 14min./mi. Problem is that it takes a long time to get my heartrate up. I'm practically done with my walk by the time I can maintain 70-80% of my maximum heartrate, and by that time, my body starts falling apart!! In this case my knees but could just as easily be hips, shoulder...you get the idea. It ain't fair!

Anyway, just wanted to check in with you faithful posters. Rhonda, you continue to amaze and so glad to see RT and dtootsie carrying on. By my absence you can assume that I have slacked off. Still doing my water aerobics, yoga class and an occasional walk or bike ride, but weights....aargh! I just haven't been pushing myself...coasting. Well, we're all works in progress.

Love you all,
Leeney

Well Leeney, thanks for stopping in. Even groans are welcome here. haha I hear you about the getting old part. I am still looking for the perfect exercise that won't hurt me but keep me in great shape. When they invent it, someone let me know please! lol

Jillian shred DVD is a killer, but I made it all the way through tonight on Level 2 (with a couple of rest stops) It is the most awful thing to go through but after you are done and lying in a heap on the floor you feel so good about yourself that you made it through it until the next day when you have to do it all over again!!!

You act as though you aren't doing that much Leeney but all the classes you are dojng at the gym is quite a workout!!! Keep on moving because we won't like the alternative! :)

*groaning at the thought of all that exercise* Way to go, keep up the good work :) I like the rowing machine, personally, tones the whole body without much pain!

Rhonda, someone sent me a link that was hysterical and I figured you'd appreciate it. I tried and tried to post the link on here but with no success. Anyway it was a small terrier-type doggie running up and down the stairs after a toy that his person kept tossing down the stairs for him. He was a skinny little thing, so you keep at it, girl!!

hahahaahahahah I think I found the video you were talking about. :D

I laughed so much. As for as the heart rate getting up the unwanted solution is to push yourself harder/faster. I'm the same way my heart rate won't elevate until after 30 minutes of anything. Unless I push myself which is both hard and sucks. Jumping Jacks are like an instant heart rate raiser for me.

That's it! That's it! Now how the he?? did you post the link?

I know that what you're saying about harder/faster working. When I'm at the gym, that's what I do. I limit my jumping jacks to my water aerobics class, but when I use cardio machines it's much easier to ramp it up than it is when I'm outside walking. I see running as my only alternative, and I may play around with that. I'm just remembering when I did that before, the awful shin splints I'd get...my feet don't flex normally. I complained to my physical therapist that I got shin splints when I ran, and she said, 'Don't run.' Not a lot of sympathy there! Anyway, that's what I mean about the getting older dilemma. The hardest thing is to wrap my head around the fact that my almost 70 year old body won't do what it used to. OK, I'm done whining. <_<

I do appreciate your input, MsM and am glad to see you on this forum. I'll keep ya posted

I can somewhat understand. I've injured my knee a couple of times so I have to rest when it starts flaring up. You could try intervals. (Helps burn fat) Like one min of jogging and 5 min of walking. I rarely run b/c it's too much stress on my legs. I prefer a jog at a 4.2 - 4.6 mph speed, which the 4.2 is really a real fast walk. :P
