There are so many people on here that I read their posts and wonder ,"What's their story?" (actually I wonder that about a lot of people, lol)

So come tell me / talk about yourself :D You know, your goals, your work ,your hobbies, etc.

I live in the Florida 30 minutes from the beach. I know, I know constant vacation for me :P

I was graduated from a local community college with a degree in Sign Language Interpreting ( I haven't signed in over a year so I probably won't continue this career anytime soon), I've also gone to vocational school for bar tending (Of which I am certified and looking for a position) and real estate sales [ never took the state exam.. I'm a chicken when it comes to tests :( ]

As far as goals here I want to be fit. The usual, flat stomach image. I had it once when I was in a fitness class but I had to literally quit drinking alcohol for 4 months. I like my liquor :/

If you haven't figured out my hobby I love making colorful alcoholic drinks. Thankfully I'm over that stage of too much drinking. I drink casually now as if you were to drink a coffee or something. I hate coffee, btw.

Some hobbies I am trying to pic up are gardening and cooking. They kind of go hand in hand I guess. :P Oh and loving my adorable cat ,Tisha, and puppy , Lady. Lady graduates Puppy school on Saturday! I'm a proud momma. :D

I'm going to have to put up some photos. Some of my drinks, My gladiolas, etc :D

Your turn !

Hi
30 minutes from the beach, huh? Enjoy it. Me too except it is a lake, not the same, I know. I'm retired grandma living in TN with my husband. And two granddaughters, not to mention their parents. I think I spend most of my time either going to the store or cooking for everyone's food sensitivities- one heart diet, three wheat/gluten allergies (to name a few), Two skinny, one not, three always on a diet of some stripe.

Hubby just had bypass surgery, and the girls have been on summer break, so it has been busy. But I am ready for that vacation you mentioned.

Good luck with all this.

I went to TN once for camping/white water rafting. SO wonderful out there. You guys have a bazillion more stars than we do and you have lightning bugs. We rarely see lightning bugs here anymore.

It sounds like some of your family might benefit with the raw diet :

"The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed.
Heating food above 116 degrees F is believed to destroy enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food.
Typically, at least 75% of the diet must be living or raw."

I love my microwave too much to do the raw diet but I've read that it's very beneficial.

Glad you could join us. :)

MsMakky

I couldn't even begin to match the excitement and interest of your life. I thought about adding food coloring to my Metamucil but decided that would be pretty sad in comparison to your mixed drinks.

The closest I ever got to being a bartender was playing one night in a jazz combo in a nightclub. The bass player got sick. I pulled out my bassoon and stood in for him the rest of the night. Somehow, the innovation did not catch on.

If I describe myself, the terms would include old, decrepit, father, husband, scientist, and coach/manager. Love working with folks and watching them grow as both people and professionals. With retirement coming, I need to improve on the hobbies and interests. Would like to write a few books on the responsibilities of business to the community. Also, would like to write about the building blocks of life. A university has offered me a part-time spot if I will use their address on the manuscripts. But primarily would like to garden with my wife (along with anything else she might desire) ... and enjoy her being joyful. Plus, I want to be available to my son and daughter in any way they might need me. Sorry to be so boring.

PS. Would like to take workout lessons from some of you. You-all amaze me.

Take care. Thanks for being here.

Hi. I know it's been a while since you posted, but I am replying. I also live in Florida, 5 minutes from the beach. I am a medical assistant and I am going to school to become an occupational therapy assistant. I would like to lose 20-25 pounds and I am starting the diet in 3 days. I am married and have 5 kids. I enjoy walking, but it's been so freaking hot that I haven't been in a while. I'm excited to start a new phase in my life.

Hi Mak, I'm in Ohio and Lake Erie is about 20 yds. from my front door. I love it, always changing. It's quiet and beautiful, just like I like things. I've been married almost 20 yrs. (2nd marriage) and my husband (lovingly referred to as Mr. Wonderful) is an avid biker. He use to road race and went to the qualifying races for the '76 Olympics. But enough about him. lol. I'm a retired teacher...lovin' it...and like to hike, bike, swim or do anything in the water, and do yoga. I just got rid of my office furniture that I don't need now that I'm retired, and am turning it into a yoga retreat. I love to decorate, garden, cook, and I'm an avid reader. I have two kids and 5 grandkids that I love spending time with and a group of friends that are lots of fun and supportive. Life is good. I've been doing the RD since Jan. '06, sometimes more successfully that others. I had lost 50 pounds several years ago but after maintaining for a while decided that I needed to lose about 20 more. The RD helped me take off the final 20.

Hi All! Shelby here. I am new to RD as this is day two. :) I have more hope for this program as I have had in any eating program for a long time. I like to eat clean but find that my cravings are our of control. I vascilate between wanting to be thin and not giving a darn. I have been happily married for 25 years and have an 18 year old daughter, freshman in college and a 10 year old son. Any way, being hot and 45 sounds good, sounds healthy. I want healthy. Shoot when I'm honest, I want HOT!. Work, I am an event planner, so food is my job. I talk food almost all day long. That and linens :). I look forward to learning so much from the rest of you. Thank you in advance for the support.

I am in Texas and first did this diet in 2006. I have maintained for a long time. This past December I had foot surgery and for some reason I thought I would be up and running in 6 weeks like the time I had my ankle operated on for a torn cartilage. Eight months later (and 30 pounds heavier) I have finally been released by my doctor BUT still no or minor impact. Guess I can't take up running. I was apparently maintaining my weight with my daily walks. I have lost 17 pounds on another plan but I have been stalled for the past 2 weeks so dug out my Rice Diet Solution book and started yesterday. I do well on low salt so I am looking forward to a quick return to my target weight.
I am still working and am a central office administrator now rather than a teacher. More stress which doesn't help with weight loss. Nearing retirement but we have a son who is 21 and is entering his third year at USMA and we cannot quitretire until he graduates. Even on a full scholarship those plane tickets home aren't cheap. He won't be back home until Thanksgiving and I want to surprise him since his dear old Mom was limping around and fat when he left in June for summer training.
I raise and show dairy goats and make goat milk soaps and lotions. Since son left for college I had to take up a new hobby since my life had revolved around him for 19 years. So I make soaps and go to craft shows and make enough to buy feed for the goats. I enjoy the shows and find it is much like therapy. i can talk and sell and enjoy myself stress free.
Hope to lose 20 more pounds and then maintain that weight for the rest of my life. NO MORE FOOT SURGERY.

Hi Ms. Makky
Funny how I started the Rice Diet about 3 weeks ago, and clicked on this as the first thread I've read... I'm 36, divorced, live in Massachusetts one minute away from the ocean. I SMELL the salt in the sea, high tide it's nice, low tide I look in the yard for dead seals!
I love drinking... maybe too much. I need to learn sign language better, my boyfriend is deaf without his hearing aides. I screw up my A, E, and S. Worst thing, all 3 of those letters are in my name!
I have 2 kids that don't live with me, I am in the best place ever in my life... I never thought I could be so happy! We're driving to Disney in July in a Winnebago we scored for FREE (I sang that word, free) aaaaand I like to dabble in a lot of different things and master in nothing!
The difference between being involved and being committed; in a ham and egg breakfast, the chicken is involved. The pig is committed.

Well, this thread has been dead for a long time, but I'm going for it anyway.

I'm a 28yo SAHM of 2 girls who will be 1 and 3 this summer. I started the RD after Thanksgiving last year and have lost 40 pounds since! I altered the RD a lot to be something I can continue for my whole life. I now call it, "1000 calories a day, the less hungry way". I basically used the super-lo-sodium principal and the all-whole-foods principal to learn how to eat 1000 calories per day and not be hungry, while adding back in some meat and dairy (mostly just chicken, fat-free cottage cheese and some parm on my salads). It's easier for me to count calories than to count portions. It has worked really well, and now I have my Mom and several friends doing it too!

About me - I currently live in Seattle, but we lived in Scotland from 2008-2009. Home is in KY, and we hope to move back there within the next year. I love to knit, although I burned myself out over Christmas making too many presents. I absolutely LOVE to cook, and recently received Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child!! Too bad it's all swimming in butter! I save it for special occasions. Just this week I have taken up running for my cardio and to add to my weight loss. Up to this point, I have not used any exercise at all while on the diet.

I guess that's about all! I've posted a running question, so if anyone knows anything about running could you let me know? Thanks!
Carrie
