Have you guys watched Forks over Knives? It's a great intro to vegan eating and why we do it.

And Linda, try blending your veggies in either a green smoothie or a soup. You may be able to tolerate them that way. Green veggies are the nutritional key to health.

Thanks, Leeney! I'll give that a try. I've been using V8 juice as one of my veggies. My neighbor is a juicer, and she loves it.

Forks Over Knives is awesome! I ran into a friend today whose husband has been on a low-carb diet and is eating virtually nothing but meat and cheese. I didn't want to preach at her, but that's what my husband was eating when his PSA started to rise. And prostate cancer is a real wake-up call.

Linda, I just ran into a woman in the locker room at the gym and she was talking about her boundless energy. I started out just kibitzing, but had to jump in and ask her what she had been doing. Turns out she was just having one juice per day in the morning. She is an RN and says she can work 10-12 hour shifts five days running and feel as good when she finishes as she did when she started. She then comes to the gym and works out! People half her age...50...are in awe of her. I learn such great things in that locker room!

Hi Leeney, not a problem, hehehe

I will say though that I AM on the fence about juicing, at least fruit juices, in particular.
Concentrated calories and no fiber. I looked into juicing years ago and thought it to be not a doable thing for me. I think eating the whole fruit or vegetable to be, at least for me more practical.

I am not a juicer and cold or chilled drinks or food, do not thrill me. Or raw. Yes I'm the weirdo who cooks romaine lettuce as greens.

And I'm up 2 pounds ACK! And the poor scale needs new batteries I think, It takes forever to wake up.

We've been back and forth with my mother, who is not conducive to me eating well. I cook too much and the things that she likes I should not eat, Too much sodium, store bought bread and condiments and some sweet snacks. Plus I ran out of acetimeniphen and have been taking some naproxin ? sodium, It works so good for me for pain relief but it makes me retain water I think. I need to get some more of my regular arthritis level stuff.

I need about 3 days of basic RD and lots of water,

Well this weekend we are here at home and staying here. Yay!!!

Funny, my husband got HIS jury summons in the mail yesterday. He is going to be on vacation over that date so he could if he wanted go. Though he has a medical condition that has always gotten him excused before. He is feeling well enough, he says he just might go.
Sock knitting, back to working on my art studio, freecycling spring cleaning and stuff like that there.
Peace and Hugs
not pieces of bugs.

I have the Vegan Comfort Food cookbook that has some smoothies in it that don't look too intimidating, so I may try some of them. I've been trying to eat more kale since I've got the beginning of a cataract in each eye (Isn't getting older fun?)and one of the smoothies has kale plus some fruit.

Cat, what kind of art do you do? I'm a watercolor painter and I love it. I know what you mean about the food selections when you have to eat with other people. Tomorrow we're going to the little town of St. Patrick, Missouri, for their church dinner. Roast beef, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, noodles, veggies, salads, bread and desserts. I'm thinking a small piece of roast beef since I haven't had meat in so long and lots of salads and veggies. Okay, maybe a little taste of the mashed potatoes and gravy and the noodles. I did a detox day today, so maybe I have some calories saved up.

Linda, oh so sorry, I've been away from my computer and doing family stuff,
I do hmm, multi media art, paint rocks, do collage, I try just about everything. I don't particularly care for oils, I do some water color when I have the time. I like acrylics the best.
My "studio" as it is, has sheets all over the tables and supplies. We need to get 4 more windows installed. don't know when that is going to happen and the bathroom project is slowly progressing but still no water... anyhoo. I have been knitting more than Arting lately. But I'm feeling a pull to redo some of the porch art that I have, my crows look bedraggled and I need something new.

I'm thinking more wire and Stick art! I have amassed a collection of odds and ends of metal, and "stuff" that I want to wire onto a sturdy substrate and then throw paint at.

hehe
Still Stagnating! I'm going to do three days of basic detox and see if that will break,
Me stagnating could have absolutely Nothing to do with snacking on a little Kings Hawaiian bread, or being over at my mother with all of her bad food, or indulging a little too much lately of a few too many Mikes Hard Lemonades, noooo...

Did you know that even diet Rootbeer has 180 mgs. of Sodium !!!
I do not drink a lot of "soda" mainly because my husband is addicted to the stuff and I've been trying for years and years to get him to cut down on the carp. So I try and not drink it so I have SOME ammo, in my arsenal of rebuttal, "Dearest, Love of my life, you don't HAVE to drink soda, I don't drink soda, I drink tea, herbal tea or water and get along perfectly fine without drinking soda!"
anyway, I did get an A&W diet the other day and enjoyed it, except for the carbonation, I don't like that. Ok there is the main reason I disdain "pop" because, it gives me gas. ew. I really don't see how people drink that stuff all the time. It feels horrible in your guts.
ANYWAY. I drank a couple of rootbeers and THEn looked at the label 180 mgs of sodium! WHAT@!@@

I could feel my face getting puffy. I kid you not!

Coka, has like 45 or something, WHY in the world would you need 180 mgs of sodium in rootbeer,.

well, no biggie, it will be awhile before I have another one. sheess,

Anyway, I have to go and make a pot o rice, We got a bag of white rice I need to use.
there is a mixture of cooked sweet peppers, onions and garlic in the fridge that is calling to me to mix with my rice. But 3 days of plain rice and fruit. sigh.

Oh does anyone like Bulgur? Have I asked that,,. oh it's yummy.
And I still can't find any aduki beans around here,, those are good,

Hi Cat, I got a chance to hop on here today and just read your question about Bulgar. YES, I buy bulgar by the 25 pound bag. I started out with a homemade cereal mix back in 2004 and like it so much that I've continued to have it for breakfast every morning for the past eight years. I cook a batch of bulgar wheat, and I also cook a batch of wheat berries for contrasting texture. I mix the two batches together and divide the mixture into three containers. Two of them I freeze and use the third one. I add a tiny spoon of organic peanut butter to the mix, lots of cinnamon and heat it in the microwave for about a minute. It is so yummy. I also dress it up with a spoonful of stewed fruit. It must be good if I've continued to look forward to it every morning for eight years. Bonnie

Hi Cat and Bonnie! Sounds like you're both doing pretty well. I gave up soda too, Cat, but sometimes in hot weather I break down and have one. Your art projects sound like a lot of fun.

I'm fighting the allergy battle right now, and I'm pretty sure the allergies are winning. When I'm not having allergies I don't crave junk food, and I lose weight pretty easily. Well, with the mild winter we've had here the allergy trouble continued right on through from fall, and now it's ramping up even more. And I'm craving every bad thing in the book. Auugghhh!!! I'm taking Zyrtec in the day and Benadryl at night, and the vegan diet actually helps a lot. But still the Easter candy is sending me an engraved invitation. "Oh, please, come buy us and eat us so we can live on your hips, waist and stomach. We'll stay forever."

Cattrix, you sound like you are always up for some fun with your creativity. I love to hear about your artwork. Have you any photos to post? I know what you mean about having one soda and just bloating up. I am like that with all the stuff they put in asian food like teriyaki, soy sauce when I eat asian food my fingers swell up like sausages quite unattractive sausages at that. The good thing is that our body is still giving us the reaction to let us know what Not to eat in the future.
Love and light to you dear Cattrix.

I am very fortunate to have a piece of Cat's ARTWORK. She painted a Coonie Rock for me and it traveled all the way from Portland, Oregon to Northern New York State. I treasure my little Coonie Rock. Here's a picture I just took of it as it sits on my Raccoon table mat. Bonnie
P.S. If you click on the picture it should make it bigger and easier to see.

Hey, I painted that. Waves at the rock. I'm one of these strange people who *think* they can feel little souls or spirits in rocks.

I'm glad you liked it Bonnie, The fox print and the lovely Basket are to the right of me and the left of me.
Bonnie is an *Artisan* basket weaver.

Monica, I used to try and sell my rocks and I do have quite a few all over the United States. And one in the UK. I like to paint BIG rocks, Or I did, it was a phase I was going thru. they are very hard to ship.

I hate the way this board has picture uploading stuff.. I'm no good at that kind of stuff. I have accounts with picturetrail, picasa, imageshack, Photobucket and flickmer, the only one I can get to to Flicermer. I lost all the passwords to the other ones..

I have tired < I have tried and am tired of the crazy maze this board is, and the antiquated software or os whatever it uses.

I am in a really goofy mood today friends. Please pardon me. ooyy..

Oh bad note. My scale finally did die. Poor thing. It got dropped one to many times, and kicked. NOT intentionally, it's leaning up against the wall in the bathroom and it gets knocked over a lot.
i'm getting a new scale, not a digital this time,. That one lasted a good long time though, got broke before and husband somehow fixed it, I don't think it's fixable this time though. Poor thing.
I'm still not to my April goal yet though *I don't know, I'm not sure, I've been without a scale for a couple of days*

Good News. I now can offically retire my old size underwear, I can get into a 9!!! well, they are a tiny tight, but I tried last year getting into a size 9 and split the side seam, I can Now get into a size nine AND sit down and be fairly comfortable, with only a Little bit of pinching. Just a smidge. And I'm going to need new bras soon, as I may have to start putting apples in my cuppage, to take up the slackage.

Eating rice, green beans and lots of spinach and just a little chicken.
Had a lot of salad over the last week, other than it being cold it tasted good.

I just simply do not care much for cold foods.

I'm back. Yes I regained some weight. I was on the RD a few years ago and did very well. I started at 317 ponds and in 7 months I went down to 215 pounds. Then I just fell off and beat myself up over it. I am done beating myself up, so I made the decision to go back on the RD. When I was here before there was a daily weigh in page. Does anyone know where I can find that forum again? Any support that anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
FYI: my old ticker is showing. I have a new ticker. It's the one with the butterfly.
