Well, this marks my one month anniversary on the RD diet. I have lost 19 pounds and I am thrilled. Last year, I lost about 23 pounds and it took all year and then I gained it all back and then some.

When I started this diet, my BP was 132/89. Two weeks later it was 117/77 and last week when I checked it was 115/74. Right now I am wearing a top I couldn't wear because my boobs were too big. They are shrinking, thank God!

I exercise 4 times a week doing weights and cardio. I plan on doing more as my weight loss slows down. However, I need to eat more at breakfast on the days I workout. I was thinking I need to add some protein, like an egg, on those days. Any suggestions?

Anyway, I enjoy reading the forums and hearing what everyone is doing.

Thanks for listening and take care.

Lauretta

Congratulations Lauretta. That is so very awesome 19 pounds in one month. Wow. I enjoy eggs. I do two eggs and put green onions and mushrooms and fresh veggies ones ex. spinach, bell peppers, the better and fold it into an omelette. I stay light on the eggs and go heavy on the fresh veggies. It is super filling. May want to eat this after you work out as it is quite filling. Hard boiled eggs and sliced tomatoes and fresh basil is another breakfast combo I like. I used to not eat breakfast at all and now I am thinking of what I enjoy. What a difference the rice program has made in my life. Leeney told me how important breakfast is so I just fell into place on this as "my way" was not working . I also love oatmeal with cinnamon and some banana cut into it. Good luck and try different things and before you know it you will find what your favorites are.

Yup, I'm big on breakfasts. I work out early in the morning so I need to have something to keep me going. I know what it's like to run out of energy mid-workout. Can you say lightheaded and nauseous? I usually get at least 10g of protein for breakfast and that seems to be fine for me. If I do a really hard weight workout I might try to save some protein for after I work out. I'll often have lentils of quinoa for breakfast with a tsp of molasses, both high in protein. I also keep Nutribiotic brown rice protein powder on hand and use it either in a smoothie or on some oatmeal or other cereal.

Thanks Monica. I added an egg on my toast this morning and it helped. Lauretta

Thanks Leeney. I have a whole can of soy protein sitting in my cabinet and have been hesitating to use it in my smoothies I make. It packs 25 g of protein for only 100 calories. I think I will add some next time I am doing an extra hard workout.

Way to go Lauretta!!!!

Your mileage may vary, but many women have a difficult time with soy. For some women, it shuts down their thyroids, which slows metabolism. For some women, since it is an estrogen mimic, it cranks up the amount of estrogen-related issues they have. I have avoided it for both reasons, but many people swear by it. But I just cringe when I read how much hype it's given, though, without the counter scientific evidence that clearly shows it is not a good thing to eat for many people, especially a lot of women. Some people do okay with it.

My niece ate a lot of soy because she's a vegetarian, and now has to be on thyroid pills. My friend who had WLS and eats a lot of soy now has no metabolism. When I was eating soy products a few years ago, it immediately kicked up my estrogen-related issues. BUT, your mileage may vary. I only offer this information in case it might be helpful. If it isn't, feel free to ignore.

But back to your progress, WAY TO GO!!! And welcome to the boards!!!!! Always nice to have newcomers!!! Keep it up, and keep coming back and talking with us! :)

Thanks for your encouraging words. I was interested in your info on soy. I have read articles about how it's not all it's cracked up to be. The only soy I have eaten is the soy protein powder and edamame. I have not eaten the soy protein on the RD diet but I do eat the edamame. I have never really analyzed whether it slows my metabolism down. But I am going to do some experimenting. I do love eating the edamame in the pods. It make the meal last a very long time.

Thanks for writing.

Vicky,

Thanks so much for writing. I have never lost this much weight in such a short period of time in my life. AND, I have been on a lot of diets. I am planning that this one will take me exactly where I want to be so I can live out my advanced years in life healthy and fit.

Best of luck to you on your RD adventure!!!!
