I just logged in last night that I've lost 4 lbs since joining on September 10th and was proud as a peacock, despite feeling fairly yucky today.

But, tonight, I weighed myself and gained a pound. Ackkkkk! I have no idea how did this happened!

Sad night tonight indeed. :(

Vicky best time to weight yourself if first thing in the morning after elimination. If you do it later in the day, could be water weight, sodium, food that you eaten it all adds up and could be easily a pound difference. Would not give this too much thought just do the program and the weight will take care of itself. Be happy that you did lose 3 pounds. Good going.

One of the things that we learn while on the RD, and I'm sure Monica would agree, is to take messages from the scale god in stride. It is only a measure of what is happening at a certain time of a certain day. Just as you would not take the result of a single test at school and use it to measure yourself in any way, don't let the measure of the scale influence your emotions or self worth either. Lasting results happen over a long period of time. We can see quick weight loss on practically any diet we go on, but to really make changes in our lives involves commitment over a period of time and will include an adjusting of our attitudes and ideas as well.

All is well. You're on the right track. Just keep going.

Leeney, it is so hard when you are first starting out. One pound gained, early on, really throws a wrench into the equation for some of us. Today, a few days later, I see I haven't been able to lose it. Of course, that big hamburger I ate the other night probably helped to keep that pound going. Ugh, so frustrating. <_<

I really need the RD book so that I can have a reference right in front of me. I'm eating eating too little or too much of one thing or another, and I can't seem to gain any momentum.

I will be getting the book this coming week.

Thank you, Monica. You're right..... 3 lbs is better than no pounds!

I usually weigh myself in the late afternoon or early evenings. By your recommendation, though, perhaps I should start doing so in the mornings?

Vicky, weight fluctuates, water retention, etc., so I only weigh 1x or 2x a week, always right after the first potty visit. Seems to work!

Great idea, Kat, I think I will do this weighing thing only a few times per week. Did so today, in the morning, and lost a pound. Yess!

Vicky,

Congratulations!!! For myself though, I have to weigh in everyday and see what's going on. It's my morning ritual before I get dressed.

Hope all is well.

Lauretta, thank you! I reeeeally want to check the scale every day but, in my case, it's probably better that I wait a few days in between just so that I don't get all of my feathers in a bunch "if" a pound appears! *lol*

If I ever end up with a steady pace of weight loss, rather than bouncing between 1-2 pounds up and down close to my original start weight, I would probably do the daily check. I'm still so close to my original weight, that it gets pretty frustrating when a pound appears.

I've been at this since September 10th and I still haven't lost 5 lbs. :(

Vicky,

You could look at it as you lost 4 POUNDS in 9 days. That's pretty good. Also, you really don't have that much weight to lose. I on the other hand, have a lot to lose and I was using SO much salt that my initial weight loss was significant when I cut out the salt.

Hang in there. You might want to take a short walk after dinner to rev up your metabolism. It doesn't have to be for very long.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Talk soon.

Sometimes your body rearranges itself a bit vs the pound showing big drops, so measure yourself weekly -- you might get a pleasant surprise :)

I have an extra copy of the RD Solution book. Let me know if you need it.

Are you tracking every bit of your sodium? It's so easy to think something doesn't have any sodium, when it really has a lot, especially things we think of as not being particularly salty, like bread items (including wraps and tortillas), tomato products, diet soda.... it all adds up. I thought I was eating low sodium until I started actually tracking everything, and looking it up. I was drinking a lot of diet A$W cream soda, and had no idea 8oz of it had 65mg sodium! That stuff added up. Not sure if this helps or not. I use http://www.sparkpeople.com to track every little morsel.

OH! I was also on some meds that held up my weight for a few weeks. Lots of things could impact it.

Best of luck. Hang in there.
